Week of November 3, 2014 Dear Parents: I can't believe it is already November.  What an exciting first nine weeks and more fun to come. Report cards will be in the Friday folder on November 7.  In the Friday folder on October 31, you should have received your child's OLSAT scores.  Please note that at the bottom it states to contact me if you have any questions, however, it should state to contact Mrs. Page.  You will also find two at home assignments for your child to be working on. Both assignments have letters attached to them and I have already explained them to the students.  One assignment is due on Thursday, November 6. This assignment is about media literacy and students are to keep track of the time they spend using media over a four day period.  The second assignment is due on Monday, November 10.  It is to simply create a disguise for Tom the Turkey.  We will be doing a writing project to go along with this. You are welcome to turn in Tom early if he is disguised
Week of October 27, 2014 Dear Parents, It is hard to believe, but our first nine weeks of second grade is complete.  It has been a wonderful start to the year.  I am looking forward to more learning each and every day. Report cards will be going home in the Friday folder on Friday, November 7.  This past week we finished up our study of place value, number lines, and addition and subtraction strategies.  We will be revisiting these concepts again later in the year.  We also learned about being safe users of the internet this week with great videos during announcements.  Next week will be red ribbon week and Principal's Pride on Monday. Please make sure to check the PTA website and the e-folder every week for important events.  I have a link on my links page for each of these. *** Very important the time for the second grade concert has changed to 6:30 rather than 7:00 In Social Studies and Science: We continue to work on our unit of inquiry "Sharing the Planet".
Week of October 20, 2014 Dear Parents, Your students were thinking like scientists this week.  It is so exciting to see their writing in science.  We had another great week in second grade.  If your student is to receive Principal's Pride on October 27, you will receive notice in this week's Friday folder.  The students did the nomination and took great care in writing why they nominated someone.  Please remember to get your information in the student directory before the cut off date.  A link has been sent out several times.  Please remember to check the Woody Alert and the Friday e-folder.  You can find a link to both on my links page. In science and social studies: We are learning about our central idea "Living things share natural resource".  We have been studying the basic needs of plants and animals and how they get their basic needs met through natural resources.  We will be inquiring into the availability of natural resources next. In math: We will f
Week of October 13, 2014 Dear Parent, Another great week in second grade.  We finished the OLSAT this week and should have result to send home sometime in November.  In the Friday folder, I put two math games we played last week in class.  This is another resource you can use for homework as math practice.  The first Principal's Pride will be held on Monday, October 27 at 8:00 in the cafeteria.  If you are new to Spicewood, Principal's Pride is a way to recognize students throughout the year.  Students are recognized for showing one of the PYP learner profile attributes.  We recognize all students throughout the year.  I will send home a letter about a week in advance when your child is nominated.  The first letters will be in the Friday folders on October 17. In social studies and science: We finished our unit of inquiry "Who We Are".  Students finished their summative project and reflection about the unit last week.  This week we will begin our study of "
Week of October 6-10, 2014 Dear Parent, I has been an exciting week around school.  We have had picture day, the book fair, and our KISS cookout.  In the Friday folder is another resource for reading.  It is a self-monitoring sheet for the students to use as they read.  I have also included a letter with information about your child using TenMarks as a resource for math practice at home.  The letter includes the students username and password and the website address.  Please put the letter some place safe so students don't loose their username and passwords.  I have also included a letter about your child's reading level. OLSAT testing will take place on Tuesday, October 7 and Wednesday, October 8 next week.  Please make sure your child comes to school well rested.  Thank you. In science/social studies: This week we have been finishing up our unit of inquiry "Who We Are".  As a final project the students are creating an "I am" puzzle and poem.  We w
