week of 5-1-17 Dear parents, Another amazing week in second grade. Students worked on and presented their summative projects for our end of the unit about meeting working to meet personal, financial, and societal needs. Our next unit has begun. It is How the World Works. The central idea is: technology has changed the way we live. Monday and Tuesday will be our math district curriculum assessments. The test will be in the morning so please make sure to have a good night's rest and a good breakfast. I will send home the scores for both the language arts and math hopefully in the Friday folder on May 4. Pleas remember to turn in the literacy library books on Monday, May 1. This will be our last turn in so you will not receive any more books this year. A huge thank you to our two wonderful literacy library volunteers this year. They have been a tremendous help. week of 4-24-17 Dear parents, What a marvelous week in second grade. Market day was a huge success. Thank you for helping the students work on their products at home.  Thank you to are parent volunteers that came and helped set up.  Carnival is Friday, April 21 from 4 to 8.  I hope to see you there. If you purchase wristband ahead, they will be in the Friday folder. If you have not purchased tickets you can still come and purchase them at the door. In the classroom: science/social studies: We are had a wonderful time at market day. The students worked hard on their products. Students were surprised to learn that they had to pay taxes out of the money they earned. Students played the "Game of Life" after market day and used their money to pay for food, shelter, transportation, entertainment, and unexpected expenses. Students are completing the unit by creating something to show how the job they want in the future will meet their personal, financial and societal needs

Week of 4-17-17 Dear parents, Another amazing week in second grade. Please don't forget that market day is Wednesday, April 19. Please send the products in that morning. The spring carnival is next Friday, April 21 from 4:00 to 8:00. If you purchased a wristband ahead of time, they are in the Friday folder today. Please remember to return the yellow registration form by Monday. Thank you if you have already done this. In the classroom: science and social studies: We worked on our advertisements for market day. Some students make posters on Piktochart and others drew them by hand. We also created a budget for a birthday party and worked on organizing our portfolios. Next week we will be returning to our game of life that we started the unit with, having market day, and reflecting about being a producer and consumer. math: We are working on math strategies for three digit addition and subtraction. We are using strategies such as open number-line, break-apart, and creating

Week of April 10, 2017 Dear Parents: It was a fabulous week in second grade. Several items went home in your Friday folder that need attention. You will see the third nine weeks report card. Please keep the report card, sign the envelope, and return the envelop. There is also a half sheet of yellow paper that is your enrollment form for next year. Please complete and return the form even if you student will not be returning to Spicewood. There is no school this coming Friday, April 14. We will have library on Thursday instead. Please send library books in on Thursday.  The next baggie book turn in will be Monday, April 17. In the classroom: Social studies/science: We have been learning about advertisements and the techniques advertisers use. Students used Piktochart to create an advertisement for the book Lemonade Wars as a practice. This week students will create an advertisement for the products they will sell at Market Day. Students will have the choice of creating it on th
