Week of March 30, 2015 Dear Parents, It was another amazing week in second grade, and the month of April is going to be very busy.  We have the school carnival coming up on April 10.  Order forms for pre-sale tickets went home in the Friday folder today. Our second grade market day will be coming up on April 24. The second grade teachers will be sending home a letter on April 10 with all the details. We will also have a field trip to McKinney Rough on April 27.  Permission slips for the field trip will go home on April 17. Second grade will also be hosting the spirit night on April 23 at Bush's Chicken on 620.  Report cards will go home next Thursday, April 2.  Don't forget that April 3 is a school holiday.  It is going to be a great month. Our library day will change to Wednesday this week, due to STAAR testing on Tuesday. Week of 2-23-15 Dear Parents, This week was an awesome week.  We have used technology all week to do research, create timelines, learn about government and famous citizens. We ended the week with our STEM enrichment day. We learned about architecture, engineering, rocks and minerals, gears, and even got to speak with a dietitian. A huge thank you to the PTA for making enrichment day such a wonderful success. A special thank you to Sibi's mother for arranging for the whole school to speak with professionals in all fields throughout the day. I am looking forward to seeing everyone back after spring break.  Have a restful week. Science/Social Studies: We worked on researching national and state symbols. We also researched and compared different government jobs. For example comparing the job of a governor to the job of the president. Students also created personal timelines on the computer.  Some students even researched famous citizens and created timelines for them. Students
Week of March 9, 2015 Dear Parents, One more wonderful week in second grade.  We started our week with our Read Across America celebration and made some gooey Ooblek.  We ended the week with an amazing choir concert with choirs from around the world.  Next week is going to be just as exciting.  We have principal's pride Monday at 8:00 and end the week with enrichment day on Friday.  The following week will be spring break. Students will be creating a personal timeline Monday.  I asked students to write down three or four dates for their timeline and bring them to school Monday.  Thank you for your help. Social Studies/Science: We played with and learned about Ooblek.  We learning about weather and climate.  We have been recording weather observations in our weather notebook.  We learned about landforms and created presentations and shared them with the class.  We will finish the week with an investigation into state and national symbols.  Students are researching and creat
