Class newsletter

week of 5-29-17 Dear parents, I wonderful week in second grade. The students have so enjoyed camping. We are learning about how technology has changed recreation. Tents need to be pulled down and taken home by the end of the day on Tuesday. Thank you for helping with this. Items to know about for next week: Monday: No school Tuesday: special classroom reward is some free time on Minecraftedu. Tents go home today. Wednesday: Board game day. Students will have time to play a board game of their choice. We will also be doing a STEAM challenge to create ovens to make our S'mores in. Thursday: Last day of school : ( . I sure am going to miss them. Students will have a time to sign yearbooks in the morning from 8:30 to 9:00. You may send the yearbook if you choose. If you did not purchase a yearbook or don't want to send the yearbook, we are creating memory books in class that morning that has a place for autographs in it. Week of 5-22-17 Dear Parents, Thank you so much for coming to the student led conferences. The students really shine when they get to share all they have worked hard on. Field day has been changed to Friday, May 26. Our lunch time will change that day to 11:56 to 12:26.  Principal's pride it on Monday, May 22 at 8:00 in the cafeteria. Monday, May 29 is a school holiday. What's happening in the classroom: Science/social studies: Our central idea has been: Technology has changed the way we live. This week we learned about how technology has changed recreation. We learned about how toys have changed over time. We have also learned how movies and animation have changed over time. We ended the week with a design challenge to make out playground more accessible. Students created a prototype for a new piece of playground equipment and created the playground in Minecraft. Next week, we will be working on our summative project where students will take a piece of technology and

Week of 5-15-17 Dear Parents, What a wonderful week in second grade. Your children have taken on the design process with great enthusiasm. There a many events coming up this week and next. May 16 Tuesday: Volunteer appreciation breakfast May 18 Thursday: Student led conferences in the classroom from 8:00 to 8:45 see letter in Friday folder. May 19 Friday: Field day. Lunch time changed to 11:56 to 12:26. May 22 Monday: Principal's pride 8:00 in the cafeteria May 29 Monday: Holiday June 1 Thursday: Last day of school party at 12;15 - 2:00. In the classroom: Science/social studies: Students have been learning about the parts of the design process. Students took on a design challenge this week to come up with a solution to any problem about transportation. Students designed a prototype to share and will reflect on what they might do differently or keep the same. week of 5-8-17 Dear parents, I am always so amazed at the wonderful support we receive from parents. Thank you so much for all the cards and flowers this week. It was a very nice teacher appreciation week. I hope you had a chance to make to school for the gallery night. The students artwork is always a wonder to see.
