Week of December 1 - 5, 2014 Dear Parent, What a wonderful music program this week.  The students worked very hard, and they sounded great. It is such a joy to see them perform. Thank you for coming out and supporting the students. A special thank you to all the parents that provided desserts for the teachers.  We truly appreciate our generous parents here at Spicewood.  I hope all of your families have a restful and joyous Thanksgiving holiday.  I am looking forward to finishing out the semester with some great learning. Mid nine weeks progress reports are in the Friday folder this week. December 3 is an early release day.  Dismissal is at 12:45. There is no homework the week of Thanksgiving so everyone can enjoy the holiday.     In science and social studies: We will be finishing up our Sharing the Planet unit of inquiry the first week in December. Students will be using research skills to find out about an endangered plant or animal.  The students will then be using Google
Week of November 17, 2014 Dear Parent, Another wonderful week in second grade full of great learning.  I am looking forward to watching our second grade students perform in the music program on Thursday.  In the past, students have been asked to be at school ready for the program at 6:15.  Students are to meet Mr. Steinburg's room. If this plan changes, I will email parents.  I hope to see you Thursday evening for the program. This week in: Science and social studies:  We are continuing with our unit of inquiry "Sharing the Planet".  We are learning about plant and animals characteristics that help them survive and use natural resources.  We will be looking at how changes in the environment cause animals/plants to migrate, hibernate, or go dormant.  We will begin our summative project when we come back from the Thanksgiving holiday. Math:  Students will continue to learn about 3D shapes.  We will be drawing 3D shapes using real-life objects.  We are also continui
Dear Parents, Week of November 10, 2014 Another wonderful week in second grade.  Report cards will be in the Friday folder, November 7. Two copies are enclosed for you.  Please keep both copies and sign and return only the report card envelope.  If you are interested in nominating your child for the TAG program, please attend the meeting on Thursday, November 13 at 6:00 in the library.  Thank you for your support on the projects second grade recently sent home.  Remember that Tom the Turkey is due on Monday, November 10. In Science/Social Studies: We had a great time learning about how humans change their environment.  We learned about oil spills and even conducted an experiment about what materials would best clean up an oil spill.  Next week, we will be learning about the characteristics of animals that help them survive and how they use natural resources to survive. In Math: We are finished with our study of time.  Students need to continue to practice reading analog time
