Week of December 1 - 5, 2014

Dear Parent,
What a wonderful music program this week.  The students worked very hard, and they sounded great. It is such a joy to see them perform. Thank you for coming out and supporting the students. A special thank you to all the parents that provided desserts for the teachers.  We truly appreciate our generous parents here at Spicewood.  I hope all of your families have a restful and joyous Thanksgiving holiday.  I am looking forward to finishing out the semester with some great learning.
Mid nine weeks progress reports are in the Friday folder this week.
December 3 is an early release day.  Dismissal is at 12:45.
There is no homework the week of Thanksgiving so everyone can enjoy the holiday.

In science and social studies:
We will be finishing up our Sharing the Planet unit of inquiry the first week in December. Students will be using research skills to find out about an endangered plant or animal.  The students will then be using Google draw to create a web to summaries the information they have learned.  Students will be making connections between the resources the animal needs to survive and the threats to their survive.

In math:
We will be cycling back to place value.  Students will be going deeper into their understanding of the value of a number, how to place larger numbers on a number line, comparing larger numbers, pictorial representations of larger numbers, and expanded notation.

In reading and writing:
We will be using our reading and writing skills to research and write about our research for the summative project.  We will soon begin our How We Express Ourselves unit of inquiry which is an in-depth study of poetry.

Technology:
Learning how to use appropriate websites for research and learning how to use Google draw.

Word Study:
We will cycle back to the high frequency word list this week.

Please make sure to check the PTA website and the efolder weekly.

Have a wonderful holiday,
Ms. Hansen
