Week of February 1, 2016 Dear parents, I can hardly believe it is already February.  We have a very busy February.  Please don't forget that Tuesday, February 2 is class picture day.  Our class pictures are at 8:10.  In your child's Friday folder, you should have received and invitation to our Poet Tea to celebrate the fabulous poets your students have become.  Students will be sharing with you some of the poems they have created.  You should have also received a letter about our Valentine's Day class party.  Both events will take place on Friday, February 12.  Please don't forget that Wednesday, February 3 is an early release day.  Our lunch time changes that day to begin at 11:11 instead of 11:31. What is happening in the classroom: Science/Social studies: We have been learning about sound and light energy.  We learned through exploration that sound is created by movement and vibration. Week of January 25, 2016 Dear Parents, It has been another great week with second graders.  Hard to believe that this will be the last week in January already.  Please save the date for our Poet Tea on February 12 at 10:30 - 11:15.  Students will be sharing their creativity through poetry. The Poet Tea invitation will be in the Friday folder on January 29.   We will also have the Valentine's Day party that afternoon. I will send home a class list in the Friday folder on January 29. Week of January 18, 2016 Dear Parents, I hope you all enjoyed the extra day of relaxation on Monday.  Class pictures will be on February 2 and February 3 will be an early release day.  If your child is doing a science fair project, they are due on Monday, January 25.  Science fair night will be on Wednesday, January 27 from 6pm to 7pm. Thank you for your continued support at home.  Reading nightly is so very important to build reading stamina. This week in: Science/social studies: Last week, we learned about how matter can be changed by heating and cooling.  This week, we will be learning about physical changes to matter.  Students will learn about how matter can be changed and the purposes for physical changes to matter.  Students will also be choosing materials based on their physical properties to build a structure. week of January 11 - 15, 2016 Dear parents, Welcome back and Happy New Year!  I hope all of you had a restful and happy holiday season. It is hard to believe we are in the second half of second grade already. Thank you for a wonderful first half of the year.  Report cards will come home Friday, January 15.  Monday, January 18 is a school holiday.  Please continue with the homework routine you have in place.  As I introduce new math concepts, I am putting new links on my website to go with the learning.  For example, we are working on two dimensional figures and I have added a link to an online geoboard. The students have earned another class reward and will be allowed to bring electronic on Friday, January 15 and use them the last half hour before recess.
