Class newsletter

week of 10-2-17 Dear parents, It was great to see everyone at the book fair and our special events this week. It is hard to believe that it is October already. Thank you for all the wonderful books donated to our class library. The students will enjoy reading all the new books. Please don't forget that student led conferences will be coming up soon. October 10. I will put a note in your Friday folder reminding you of your time. Part of your time will be spent with your child going over the items they have collected in their portfolio including their digital portfolio. It will also include a goal setting sheet created by your student and one created by me. Don't forget to bring library books, Friday folders, and homework folders on Monday. The literacy library books will be returned on Wednesday October 11 and new ones will be sent home that day. Week of 9-25-17 Dear Parents, What a wonderful, creative week in second grade. Students have been using their creative skills this week by producing a poster, google slides presentation, google drawing, or google document to demonstrate how a famous person was a good citizen. They are such naturals at the use of technology. Please don't forget that the KISS cookout is this coming Friday, September 29 at our lunch time 11:31 to 12:01. In the past, I have left me classroom open for parents to bring their students. Please remember that we are not allowed to bring another child other than your own child. Please don't forget our conference day is Tuesday, October 10. I will send a reminder of the time you chose at the open house in the Friday folder next week. Please don't forget to look at the efolder each week. Our class will be have their book fair preview on Monday. The book fair will be open all week. Week of 9-18-17 Dear Parents, It has been another wonderful week in second grade. The students were very excited about the Adventure Dash. Thank you so much for your donations and participation in this wonderful fund raiser. Please don't forget that the information for many of the activities at school is located in the digital Friday folder. week of 9-11-17 Dear Parents, Thank you so much for coming to the open house on Thursday evening. I enjoyed meeting with you. I am looking forward to our working with each other to make it a wonderful year for your children. Please remember to send in Friday folders and library books on Monday. Homework folders will go home on Monday and please return them next Monday. Papers about the upcoming KISS cookout went home in the Friday folder. Look for book fair information coming soon. In the classroom: Science and socials studies: We have been looking at tools scientists, readers, writers, historians, and mathematicians use. We have put tools in our folders to use. We have also talked about using tools around the room to help them. We investigated timelines as a tool that historians use. Students will be creating a personal timeline. Math: We looked a comparing numbers this week using a number line as a tool. We also worked on problems solving and tools that can be used

Week of September 4, 2017 Dear Parents, It has been a wonderful second week of school. I am enjoying getting to know all of your students. Please don't forget about our parent open house Thursday, September 7 at 5:30. There is limited space in the classroom so please arrange for children to stay at home. Thank you. Monday, September 4 is a school holiday. Have a wonderful long weekend. I sent a class email to test email addresses. If you did not receive and email please contact me. My email is helen_hansen@roundrockisd.org. We will be using the computers frequently to listen to stories etc. I have about 10 or 11 headphones in my class. If your child would like to bring their own ear buds or headphones, please send them with their name on them. Send them in a Ziploc baggie if they will fit. Thank you.
