An Inquiry Into:
|
Language Arts
Reading:
Readers will be introduced to Haikus, Diamontes, Cinquains, and Quatrains as a form of figurative language and patterns throughout these poems.
Writing:
Writers will brainstorm ideas for small moments stories, practice telling partners the beginning, middle, and ending, then begin writing rough draft. We will practice writing strong beginnings to “hook” the reader and begin revising to make sure writing sounds right.
Spelling Pattern for the week is or, oar, ore, and w + or floor, north, more, store, sore, board, roar, work word, world. |
Math
Students will be exploring different ways to compose and decompose 2 digit number using base ten blocks by regrouping the ones and tens blocks. We will then begin subtracting one digit from two digit numbers. We will practice using the count back strategy to subtract two digit numbers that involve building a bridge across a ten, then be encouraged to use a number line to show thinking. Students will practice relating addition and subtraction beyond the facts by acting out scenes from a storybook.

Science/Social Studies
We will be having a class meeting to talk about what we did over the break and review classroom essential agreements. We will also reflect on our goals we set in the fall and update with progress being met. Students will be introduced to the “Where we are in place in time”unit of inquiry this week with provocations to engage and spark curiosity about patterns. Students will have the opportunity to explore maps and map features such as: legends, symbols, landforms, & routes. We will play games with the globe to practice locating places of significance including the local community, Texas, the state capital, the U.S. Capital, major cities of Texas, the coast of Texas, Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
