What is happening in class:
Science and Social Studies:
We are continuing our unit of inquiry "Who We Are". This week we have been learning about tools readers, writers, scientists, and mathematicians use. We also explored different scientists and what they do. Next week, we will work on telling the class about a scientist we learned about. We will be learning about the many different roles Benjamin Franklin had and how that applies to each of us.
Math:
We have finished up graphing. Students ended the by choosing their own question and responses, collecting the data from classmates, recording the data and then organizing the data into a graph. What amazing mathematicians they are. This week we will be looking at two digit place value. We will be learning about the value of digits. We will also be placing numbers on a number line and learning about how number lines are used by mathematicians.
Writing:
Students have been learning about the tools writers use. They also created a heart map of ideas to write about. Students will be learning about how to organize a story into a beginning, middle and end.
Reading:
Students are learning about character traits and how authors let the reader know the character's traits. We will be learning about making connections to text and making predictions about stories.
We have started learning cursive and this process with continue throughout the year.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at parent orientation.
