class newsletter 5-23-16

Week of May 23, 2016

Dear Parents,

Whew! Last week was a busy week and it looks like this week will be busy too. Thank you for coming out to the Spirit Night at MOD Pizza. It was delicious. Thank you for sending in the items for our creative maker-space.  The creations are marvelous. It is fun to be creative. Field day was a huge success and I hope everything made it home. If your child is missing an item, please check with the office.  Principal's Pride is on Tuesday at 8:00 in the cafeteria and Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast follows at 8:30 in the library.  Thank you to everyone for all their volunteer hours.  Our "classroom camping" begins on Wednesday. Please don't forget to send in a pillow, small blanket, and your food contribution by Wednesday.  We will be taking home school items all next week.  If you have not sent in your sturdy bag, please do so by Monday. Library books were due on Friday so if you have any at home please send them in on Monday.  Monday, May 30 is a school holiday. Tuesday will be the last homework turn in day.

What's going on in the classroom?

In science and social studies:
We are studying how technology has changed the way we live. We have been looking at advances in communication. This week we will look at advances in recreation and transportation.

In math:
We are working on reading, writing, and saying four digit numbers up to 1,200.  We will also be reviewing skills during our camp week such as graphing, interpreting data, fractions, and whole part, part problem solving.

In reading and writing:
We will be reading drama.  We will also be reading "camp stories". We will be writing our own camp story and letters to animals we learn about during our "camping" days.

Word Work:
In your next week Friday folder, you will find a copy of your child's high frequency word list.  I have placed a dash next to any word your child missed during our spelling tests.  This would be a great thing to study over the summer.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Ms. Hansen
