Week of March 21-25, 2016

Dear Parents,

Welcome back from spring break.  If your child is receiving principal's pride this time, don't forget it is Monday, March 21 at 8:00 in the cafeteria.  Notices were sent home in last week's Friday folder. March 25 is a school holiday.  We will be doing our Minecraft project to build our community starting Tuesday.  We will begin working at the 7:45 bell so we have time to finish our community. Watch for pictures on the blog. The end of the third nine weeks is on March 24 and report cards will be going home in the Friday folder on April 8.

What is happening in the classroom:

Science and social studies:
We will be finishing our study of the human and geographic features that affect communities by creating a community in Minecraft.  On the STEAM day we used our city planning and engineering skills to plan out our community.  We are ready to create.

Math:
We are continuing to learn about different ways to solve addition and subtraction problems with three digit numbers. We are applying these skills to problem solving.  We will also be working on computational fluency (adding numbers in a string quickly) We do this with what the class calls playing with numbers.  Looking for ways to make ten or 5 to add numbers in our heads quickly.

Writing:
We will be planning and writing a fairy tale. We will take the fairy tale through the writing process.

Reading:
We have learned about the characteristics of folktales, fairy tales, and fables.  This week we will be learning about the characteristics of myths.  We continue to work on comprehension skills and fluency.
