Week of February 15, 2016
Dear Parents,
I hope you enjoy the three day weekend. I will see the students on Tuesday. Thank you so much to all who were able to come to the "Poet Tea". It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm for sharing poetry all around the room. I will be sending home the students' poetry collections along with a parent input form. Please sit with your child and complete the parent input form and return it to me by Friday. Please count this on the homework log. Your input it greatly appreciated and will help the teachers plan for this unit next year. Students were very creative with their poetry. I enjoyed listening to variety of poems.
This week in:
Science and social studies:
We will begin our next unit of inquiry which is Where We Are in Place and Time. The central ideas for this unit is: Human and geographic factors affect communities. We will be learning about what the reasons people settle in different areas.
Math:
We have finished with our study of multiplication and division. We will be looking at strategies for solving two and three digit subtraction problems.
Reading:
We will be comparing and contrasting non-fiction and fiction.
Writing:
We will be learning about persuasive writing.
Word study:
We will be working on prepositions. Please continue to work on list 4 of the high frequency word list.
