Week of 5-25-15

Dear Parents,

I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day holiday.  Tuesday morning starts off with Principal's Pride at 8:00 in the cafeteria.  Field day will be on Thursday, May 28.  Please remember to send a change of clothes with students.  Boys need to wear swim trunks with at shirt.  Girls need to wear a one-piece swim suit with shorts.  Please remember to apply sunscreen and possibly bug spray at home before school.

Please remember to send in your recycle/collected items for our creative time on Tuesday, May 26.

Library books were due on Friday.  If you find a book at home, please send it in as soon as possible.

You should have received a reflection letter from you child about the reading and writing curriculum based assessment.  I put the percentage score on the paper along with your child's end of the year reading assessment level.

In Social Studies/Science:
We are continuing with our How the World Works unit about technology changing the way we live. We have been learning about how technology has changed communication.  We have started looking at how technology has changed recreation and will finish our unit with how technology has changed transportation. We have watched a silent movie and learned about Walt Disney.  We have also learned about many scientists and inventors.

In Math:
We finished our study of addition and subtraction with larger numbers.  We will start our look at fractions.  Students will be expected to know about halves, fourths, and eighths. The big idea that students need to understand is that fractions have to be equal parts.

In Language Arts:
We will be working on the characteristics of drama.  Students will be finishing up independent research projects and book reports.

We are working on finishing all the letters in the cursive book.  It would be good for students to continue to practice this summer.

I sent home the final test on the high frequency word list.  Please continue to practice these words with your child.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Ms. Hansen
