Week of September 29, 2014
Dear Parents,

It was such a wonderful experience meeting and conferencing with every family. Thank you so much for taking your time to come to the conference.  I hope you enjoyed reading your child's goals.  The students put a great deal of thought into writing their goals.  It will be a wonderful reflection tool to see each child's growth at the end of the year.

This week in science/social studies:
The students are creating commercials about being a good citizen.  We will start filming them on Monday.  We will be ending the week with our final project for are unit of inquiry "Who We Are".  Students will create a puzzle person with each piece representing a role in the student's life.  The puzzle will be put together to represent the central idea "Who we are involves many different roles."

This week in math:
We will continue are study of place value.  We have been learning about the different places and the value of digits in those places.  We have done "guess my number" with clues about digit, odd or even, and between this number and that number.  This is a game you could play at home.  For example.  I am a number between 50 and 60.  I am an even number.  The sum of my digits is 7. What number am I?  We will continue to be thinkers and problem solvers this week as well.  We will also be getting on Ten Marks and setting up accounts so students can use this as a resource to work on math at home.  I will send home their student login and password next Friday.

This week will be a new word study week.  The new word study will be in their homework folder on Tuesday.

This week in writing:
We will be looking at getting ideas for writing.  We will also be learning about the difference between a watermelon story and a seed story.  Students will be independent writing as well.

This week in reading:
We will be getting into reading groups and starting our work on strategies for comprehension.  We will also be learning about "book talk".

Don't forget Tuesday is turn in homework folder day.  We will not be having library this week due to the book fair.

Around the school:
Book fair is this week.  The book fair will be open late on Tuesday and there will also be food trucks available to get that much needed dinner on the go.  It will be open from 5:00 to 7:00.  It will also be open during the KISS lunch this Friday.

If you are wondering about nominating your child for TAG, please attend the informational session on November 13 at 6:00 in the library.

Please check the PTA woody's word for updated information on all the activities going on at our wonderful school.

Don't forget to check the efolder.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Ms. Hansen
