Announcements for the week of September 22- 26

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone has had an enjoyable week.  Second graders have been very busy this week. Students have been learning about citizenship and the qualities of good citizens.  This week, students will be working in groups to create a one minute commercial about what makes a good citizen. As a final project for graphs, students created graphs of their own choice.  This week students will be reflecting on how well they met the expectations for creating their graphs.  This is part of our PYP learner profile of being reflective about our learning. Students have started learning about place value.  We have been learning words like expanded notation and digit to build our mathematical vocabulary. We will continue with our study of place value for several weeks.  We have been working on greater than, less than, and equal to.  The students worked on a game for this concept and have a copy of the game in their Friday folders.  This would be a great game to play for math homework.  Students have been working very hard on creating goals for themselves for the year.  At the conference, I will share my goals for your student.  Your student will also share the goals he or she has written for themselves, work samples, and how they are developing the IB learner profile.  Next week we will be thinking about strategies to help us read and understand what we are reading.  We will also be working on ideas for our writing.

I have updated the homework page with some ideas for homework and a possible schedule for you. I have also updated the important dates page.

I have conferences scheduled every afternoon next week.  I sent home a conference confirmation form in last weeks Friday folders.  If you have forgotten your time please email me and I will send you a reminder.  Please remember these are goal setting student led conferences.  Your child needs to attend in order to share the goals he or she has set for themselves.  I am looking forward to meeting with everyone next week.

Have a wonderful weekend.  Stay dry.  I will see everyone sometime next week.  Don't forget to check the efolder and the PTA website for the Panther newsletter.

Ms. Hansen
